From Seed to Store

There's a story behind every stem.

Before our flowers reach Wimbledon Village, they've already been on quite a journey. Follow the care and craft behind every stem, from the grower to our shop, and discover what happens once their time in the vase is over.

The journey of our flowers

From the first tiny signs of growth to the finishing touches in our shop, follow the route of a flower.

Illustrated journey of Gardenia's flowers: plants grow, flowers are harvested and transported, inspected at Wimbledon Village, conditioned, arranged and delivered, with green waste returned to the soil through COM:POST.

01 / Nurtured by growers

It begins long before the bouquet

Some flowers begin as seeds, others as bulbs or cuttings. Skilled growers balance light, water, temperature and nutrition, then harvest each variety at the stage that suits it best.

02 / Carefully on the move

Picked, packed and on their way

After harvest, stems are graded and packed. Many travel in controlled, cool conditions to help preserve their quality. Some go through auctions; others are purchased directly.

03 / Our hands, then yours

A little Gardenia know-how

Every delivery is checked at our Wimbledon Village shop. We recut, hydrate and condition the flowers, then arrange them by hand, ready for delivery or collection.

Beyond the bouquet

From flowers back to the soil.

We love the moment flowers make someone smile. But we care about what happens afterwards, too. That's why our suitable floral green waste is collected by COM:POST and processed into compost for UK growers.

Small choices. Real impact.

We don't pretend flowers have no footprint.

Growing, cooling and transporting flowers all use resources. We can't wish that away. But we can choose carefully, waste less and keep improving the things within our control.

Our everyday bouquet wrapping is plastic-free and 100% home compostable. That is a separate journey from our shop's floral green waste, which goes through COM:POST's commercial collection service.

For weddings and events, we aim to reuse our vases and mechanics wherever practical, returning them to the shop to be used again.

We're proud of the progress, and we're happy to share the numbers behind it.
